In gameweek 25, I got none of the prediction summary article written. In gameweek 26, I got it half written. To complete the pattern, here is the (approximately) fully written gameweek 27 summary. Keep an eye out for the gameweeks 25 and 26 prediction/results joint articles, just don’t hold your breath.
The Predictions
CHE (vs SOU) top the attacking predictions with a standout game. The following teams fall below the year to date average with a second place LIV (vs NEW) and then MUN (vs IPS) and MCI (at TOT). WHU (vs LEI) make an uncommon appearance in the top five. Most folks would put that team in the “in form” category against a “out of form” LEI. That could be an interesting match to follow.
CHE (vs SOU) top the defensive list as well. The other tops teams are mostly different with ARS (at NFO), MUN (vs IPS), FUL (at WOL), and BRE (vs EVE). WHU (vs LEI) slide in with a cheeky sixth.
The Matchups
Given the attacking and defensive predictions, it is no surprise that CHE are the biggest favourite this week vs SOU. MUN and WHU end up decent favourites with their favourable matchups. Outside of that, it seems to be a good amount of relatively even matchups. The home/away is swaying things a bit with ARS, MCI, and FUL being stronger enough to be favourites away.
A quick note that my favourite matchup is occurring this week. That would be TOTvMCI. This matchup has a wild history. I don’t have the time to get into it this week, but look back to the GW12 predictions for more details and note that in GW12, the result was MCI 0-4 TOT with an xG of MCI 2.1v2.5 TOT. Love the variance.
Closing
I did it! Article posted, and maybe even in enough time to be useful before the FPL deadline. A week and a half until the next deadline, so have a good week and half.
